Set Value
The Set value feature allows to set or change responses to questions upon a logical condition.
How to apply the feature
Click Advanced features button on the Form toolbar menu. Select the Set Value from the dropdown.
Click the Add Set Value button.
How to create / edit Set Value
When creating/editing one Set value action, the page is divided into 2 sections: Select question to set or clear value and Condition.
Select question to set or clear value
Select question to set or clear answer for:
Action type
Set (and clear if not). This action selects/sets respective answer option upon execution of logical condition and de-selects it if user changes the answer that triggered the selection. If a respondent triggers the condition and changes the response afterwards, the set value will be cleared.
Set(and clear if not) Q2.A1 if Q1.A1 means that the first answer option in Q2 will be selected if the respondent chooses the first answer option in Q1.Set. This action selects/sets respective answer option upon execution of a logical condition.
Clear. This action resets respective answer option upon execution of a logical condition.
Value to be set
To reference a question use either question/answer numbers or custom identifiers:
[Qx.Ay], {Qx.Ay}, {Question_identifier.Ay}, {Answer_identifier}
Use square or curly brackets for piping references;
You can also embed piping references directly in a text value to be set;
"The total is [Qx.Ay]"
To reference an answer option with a date format applied, use square brackets only.
[Q1.A1], where Q1 is "Single-line text with pre-format options" question and A1 has the Date format applied.
If you need to use double quote or brackets, please escape them with \(back slash), i.e. \" or \[
It is possible to set a value for Object Lookup question by specifying the unique key for an object or a contact that should be selected. The unique keys should be looked up separately, in the data model or the contact manager linked to the Object Lookup question.
Answers for the file upload questions may be reset using the option 'Clear'.
Please avoid overlapping ‘Set And Clear’ conditions for several answer options of the same question (when more than one condition can be true at the same time), use logic combination instead.
We don't recommend implementing Set Value to the answer options of Single Line question where the different formats are set as a referenced answer option can't accept the value of inappropriate format.
Condition
You can either create a new condition or select the one created earlier and modify it if necessary;
3 conditional operators available: IF, IF NOT and IF ALWAYS. The IF ALWAYS operator triggers an action unconditionally upon form submission.
Build complex logical conditions using Add rule (1), Add sub-group (2), Add group (3) options and AND/OR/AND NOT/OR NOT logical operators.
Please read the Set Value Logicarticle for information about logical operators and conditions.
Value for comparison
First, select a condition (Contains, Equals to, etc.) and then specify:
Numeric or text value, i.e. IF Q1.A1=<5;
Piping reference: [Qx.Ay] or {Qx.Ay} (square or curly brackets), i.e. IF Q1.A1=<[Q2.A1]
Question and answer identifiers are also supported, so you can use them to reference specific question instead of question/answer option numbers.
Piping references on date fields: [Qx.Ay] (square brackets only)
Please read the article about list of regular expressions and their types.
While working with an action, you can easily switch to the Quick edit mode and edit it on the same page:
Quick Mode
Click the Quick Edit button to work in notepad-like quick mode and add many expressions at once.
Quick mode allows you to create multiple expressions at once or copy them from other source and paste into your form:
Each expression will appear on a new line on the Quick Edit page:
Please, refer to Set Value Logic article for more information on creating complex logical conditions.
Summary Page
You can add new actions, view, edit and change the priority of existing actions directly from this page. On the Summary page you can switch between Branching, Set Values and Show/Hide tabs.
While working with any action from this page you can make it inactive (1), move up/down (2) or delete (4) it. Quick edit mode (3) is also available for each expression on this page and allows inline editing:
